Ambergris Caye

One of the most popular destinations in Belize, Ambergris Caye lives up to it’s reputation as paradise on earth.

Geography – As Belize’s largest island, Ambergris Caye stretches 25 miles along the country’s northern coast. Unspoiled sandy beaches and palm trees tousled by a gentle breeze are framed to the east and west by clear, turquoise waters famous for their world-class fishing, diving and snorkeling. Only a mile or more wide, the Caye is the perfect spot to relax on the beach, seek shade under coconut and mangrove trees or explore the reefs and shallows.

Wildlife – Ambergris Caye teems with abundant marine life, brilliantly coloured birds and elusive jungle inhabitants. Its diving and snorkeling are world renowned, rewarding visitors with a dazzling array of fish species and glimpses of sharks, rays, marine mammals and reptiles.

Activities – Despite its laid-back ambiance, Ambergris Caye offers a host of activities for visitors, whether they are adventurers and extreme sport enthusiasts or leisure lovers.

Water Sports – Ambergris Caye is heaven for water lovers. All types of watercraft are available, from kayaks to catamarans to wave runners. Parasailing and kite surfing are ideal pursuits on the Caye’s calm waters.

Fishing, whether guided or solo, is extremely popular, as is diving and snorkeling – day or night. Turneffe Atoll’s famous Blue Hole (a puddle skip from Ambergris Caye), proclaimed a World Heritage Site in 1996, is one of the most astounding dive sites in the world.

Land-Based Activities – On land, bird watching, biking, golf and tours of jungle-engulfed Mayan ruins pass the time in daylight hours. Leisurely shopping and dining in the nearby town of San Pedro can also be done with or without shoes. No shoes, no shirt, no problem!

Nightlife – At sunset, the sun’s last rays set the sea ablaze with color. As day fades into dusk, the nightlife comes alive in San Pedro. Live music and entertainment in local nightclubs and dance bars keep the fun going well into the night.

Nature – Ambergris Caye is a nature-lover’s dream. Its lush littoral forests full of mangroves, coco plum, black poison wood, red and white gumbo limbo and more provide breathtaking views of tropical splendor.
